Description
TYPE OF BOAT: Pinasse
YEAR OF LAUNCH: Before 1556 – 1902 launch of motor model
COUNTRY OF CONSTRUCTION: France
HISTORY: Long, narrow, with a very raised front, the Pinasse d’Arcachon is traditionally made of Landes pine wood and has a flat bottom. With the evolution of techniques and uses, its sides have widened to accommodate an engine, and composite materials sometimes replace pine.
In 1902, Albert Couach and Auguste Bert developed the first motorized pinnace, Libellule, launched in 1903. Motorization developed massively after 1905-1906, first for the wealthiest residents then, until 1913, for almost all the fishing pinasses of Arcachon.
Sailing or motorized, the pinnace is now very popular: it is no longer used for fishing or oyster farming, but for cruising, yachting and regattas.
AND TODAY ? The pinnace of Arcachon is no longer used for fishing or for oyster farming, but is regaining great popularity for walking, yachting and regattas.
