Muscadet

The Muscadet is a small wooden family cruiser, designed by Philippe Harlé in 1963, which remains the emblem of yachting at that time. It is one of the plywood sailboats that has allowed the development of yachting in France and remains timeless, even if it has not been produced since 1979.

Description

TYPE OF BOAT: Racing-cruising sailboat (one-design)
YEAR OF LAUNCH: 1963
COUNTRY OF CONSTRUCTION: France

BUILDING : Chantier Aubin ARCHITECT: Philippe Harlé

HISTORY: The great novelty brought by the Muscadet was its plywood construction which revolutionized the practice of the Aubin shipyard which had to leave the classic construction to make the series. The Muscadet was produced in 700 units, including 650 in the keelboat version and only 50 in the dinghy version. Constructed of wood, production ceased in 1979, as the material was no longer competitive with polyester. However, several years later we realize that this boat is extremely seaworthy.

AND TODAY ? Muscadet has not been produced since 1979. However, few wooden sailboats can boast of such incredible longevity: of the 700 examples built, 300 still hold up.
